Women's Shoes
DOWN WITH "BEST DRESSED" AND "WORST DRESSED" LISTS! The history of women's shoes tells me that they must surely have been invented by someone who disliked us. The really sad thing is that we have bought into wearing/using the darned things for hundreds of years! And now.....we have deformed feet and lower back problems out the wazoo--irreparable damage to our own bodies for the sake of "fashion?" The wearing of high-heeled shoes is a prime example of women inviting foot problems. Podiatrists (foot doctors) see NO value in high heels, nor FINALLY, do I! They are considered to be orthopedically and biomechanically unsound. They know that high heels contribute to foot, knee and back problems. These shoes can and often do cause disabling injuries from falls, awkward and unnatural gait and shortened calf muscles. When women drive, these shoes can catch on the brake or accelerator unexpectedly, causing auto accidents. In time, women's shoes may cause enough changes to the feet to impair their proper function. Most women admit high heels make their feet hurt, but they tolerate the discomfort because they mistakenly think they look taller, stylish, and more professional. How many women's feet have you ever seen that are pointed? How many women's feet have you ever seen that are naturally arched with the heel up in the air by a minimum of 2 inches, and more likely 4? In other words, you only walk on the ball of your foot because your heel naturally doesn't touch the ground.....HOW MANY have you seen like that? Arguments like "my husband/boyfriend loves them" or "you must wear the 'proper' shoe accessory" for weddings or evenings out are not valid. If a man had to wear and walk in these things for one hour (let alone a lifetime), I'm telling you the style of women's shoes would change overnight. How many of these "savvy, in-style" women's shoe designers do you think are men? And if they ARE women, how many of them actually wear their creations? (It's kind of like how many cigarette company executives actually smoke?) There are all of the different "styles" of women's shoes: espadrilles, mules and clogs, ankle straps, platforms, wedges, evening shoes, daytime shoes, designer shoes--the list is endless! And then, usually way down at the bottom of such lists is a "comfortable" category. ALL of the styles should be comfortable! ALL OF THEM! Oh, and let's not forgot the popular advertising gimmick "sexy shoes." Well, newsflash! You don't have sex with shoes, you have sex with a human being. Women have been SO conditioned and SO brainwashed about shoes that if you try to tell a younger woman, for example, to wear different shoes, she will look at you like you have 4 eyes instead of 2, and all of the 4 eyes have ugly drooly stuff hanging off of them. Even some older women have remained succumbed by the belief that these ridiculous shoes are a necessity. I have seen countless women at events like art festivals or events that require lots of walking and they are wearing idiotic shoes and you can tell by the pain on their faces that their feet are in immense pain. You can often hear them complain "my feet are KILLING me!" You can even see some of them walking barefooted, carrying the stupid shoes in their hands. But they do it anyway. Do they look great, though? They think they do, or they think OTHERS think they do, which seems to be what it is really all about anyway. Here is a partial list of some of the conditions women get from wearing idiotic shoes: metatarsalgia, bunions, plantar fascitis, hammertoe, Achilles tendonitis, neuromas, "pump bump" (or Haglund's deformity). If you don't know what any of these are, look them up on the internet, in a dictionary, or ask your favorite podiatrist. You will not like the sound of any of these conditions. Ouch! So the question(s) is: when you are 62, (and for those of you who aren't even close, you WILL be) do you want any or some or all of these things just for the sake of looking good? And if your answer is "yes, I even want all these conditions just so I can look good" then you probably need to ask yourself another question. That question should be: who is SO important in my life that I should risk all these health conditions just to "look good" for them? Oh, and perhaps one more thought.....no one else has the right to decide what's "right" for you, whether it applies to fashion and shoes or your life's career choice. Only YOU know what is best for YOU.
