Every living, breathing human being has some form of creative expression. It does not matter into what environment, country or ethnicity you are born. You have creative expression. Creative expression is typically thought to be some form of artwork such as a painting or perhaps a musical creation such as writing or performing a song. The gifts of creative expression, however, are as varied as are all of the people in the Universe. Each of us has our own unique talent(s).
To a visual artist, “crunching numbers” may not be creative. But to the accountant who loves what they do, that is their form of creative expression. A great mechanic may not be able to play a musical instrument, but his/her form of creative expression is to take an ailing automobile and get it to cruise down the road again. Another’s creative expression might be to visit nursing homes or hospitals and bring hope and joy and smiles to an ill person. And still another may be simply to give another human being a hug. Chefs, teachers, nurses, fishermen, comedians, barbers, business owners, inventors, seamstresses, joggers, beauticians, drummers, gymnasts, librarians, aestheticians, police officers, pie bakers, doll makers, lion tamers, and sword swallowers—all of these folks are expressing their creativity, and all are different forms of expression.
Many of us are afraid to express ourselves. Often, we fear failure, but we ALSO fear success. Rejection, ridicule, and thinking what we do “may not be good enough” all contribute to why we end up not “singing our own songs.” Think of all the great contributions our world could have received that may have gone unspoken or unwritten or not acted upon because of these fears. Most people either do or do not do things in their lives based on their perceptions of what other people think. This is a serious condition—a human condition everyone at some time in her/his life has experienced. It is not a medical condition; it is not an emotional condition. It is a matter of having the ability to listen to AND trust your own wisdom, your own intuition, your own abilities, your own creativity, your own desires! Nobody else but you knows what is best for you, what is right for you, what makes your heart sing. Allowing your heart to sing—that is what you are here for—to learn to make YOUR heart sing—for in the song of your heart you join the chorus of life that is pure love, pure creation, pure oneness.
So let’s define this thing called “making your heart sing.”
You came into this world as a totally unique and gifted person. No other human being is like you. This is not news. People have written about this and pointed this out for eons. Here’s the deal: nobody else can do what you do the way you do it. This means that you have gifts to offer the world unlike any other person. Now…..you have desires in your heart. You have abilities to create those desires. It is your birthright! You do not have one single desire in your heart that you do not have the ability to create. Not one! Every desire has an equal ability to create it. And this—these desires you have—is what makes your heart sing! And this is YOUR creative expression!
It’s important to take some time just for yourself to learn how to express your own personal gifts of creativity. When we don’t ever take time to do that, we often end up feeling very stressed or despondent or angry. Some of us don’t even know what our creative expression is. We have glimmers and nudges and notions, but we let “life” get in our way all too often, and so the ideas get pushed down or aside or harshly judged as unworthy ways to spend time. But think on these things:
Do you have a desire to feed the hungry?
Do you have a desire to stand before an audience and belt out a song?
Do you have a desire to see a world without violence?
Do you have a desire to travel the world?
Do you have a desire to sit and listen to a waterfall?
Do you have a desire to design clothing and jewelry?
Do you have a desire to help a little child see her/his potential?
Do you have a desire to run naked on the beach?
Do you have a desire to make a difference?
Whatever your innermost desires might be, you have the abilities to create them.
It has frequently been said that people mostly do not regret what they have done. They mostly regret what they have NOT done! Where do you stand with your ability to express your creativity? Are you a tire kicker or do you take action?
The word imagination is synonymous with “creative ability.” When your imagination is at work, that usually defines your creative expression. How often do you let your “inner child” come out to play? Meditation is a wonderful way to get in touch with your inner being and to make those discoveries about yourself. Promise yourself you’ll do at least 2 things this week that will encourage your creative expression. Just two. Then next week, you can add another one. Soon, you will see that you CAN uncover those hidden treasures of your creative expression. By starting to express yourself, you will then see that your heart, too, can sing. Then you will see that you do have talents. Do that for yourself. The Universe will be rejoicing!
