Recognizing the Divine

“Namaste” is an ancient Sanskrit understanding that says, "I respect the place in you that is of love, of truth and of Light. When you are in that place in you, and I am in that place in me then we are one." The Sanskrit word “Namaste” means 'I bow to the divine in you.'

It’s often comparatively easy to recognize the “divine” in others………but what about recognizing it in ourselves?

The modern definition (according to the Yahoo dictionary) of the word “divine” is as follows:

1. a. having the nature of or being a deity; b. of, relating to, emanating from, or being the expression of a deity: sought divine guidance through meditation; c. being in the service or worship of a deity; sacred;
2. supremely good or beautiful; magnificent: a divine performance of the concerto. b. extremely pleasant; delightful: had a divine time at the ball.
3. superhuman; godlike.
4. heavenly; perfect.

Do you recognize and accept your own Divinity? Do I? Do you and I realize that we are the fullest expressions of the divine?

If your heart sings, you are connected. If you are experiencing pure joy every day, all day long, you are connected. If you don’t judge others, you are connected. If you see only good, you are connected. If you do your very best every day, every moment, you are connected. If you are passionate about what you are doing in your day, you are connected. The closer you are to your true self, you are connected. It’s this connection…………To All That Is that is your Divinity! Do you see it? Do you recognize it?

The connection to our Source IS our Divinity. So how do we get it if we think we don’t “have it”—this connection……..this divine state of being. We get it by becoming a gatekeeper of our thoughts and actions. We try with all our might to eliminate those thoughts and actions that don’t serve our Highest Good. It doesn’t have to be hard. We don’t have to do it alone! We ask. Ask for help. Listen for the answers. They are always there if we just listen. No one knows what’s best for you but YOU. And you always know what’s best for you if you just listen. Your two choices are: either you feel bad (disconnected) or good (connected).

Once you’ve established your connection with the divine, even if you experience adversity, you’ll always remember that connection. Sometimes we stub our toes on the sidewalk of life. But as we experience more connection to our Source, we begin to see so many more ways of working through our problems. At times our “lessons” can be quite distinctive. There are myriad ways that the divine connects with us. Sometimes it is a thought. Sometimes it is something someone says to us at precisely the right moment, a dream, an inspiration, a book we happen to read, or even a dramatic/traumatic event. Pay attention. The one constant you will notice is that life will be seen differently. You will begin to realize that you are intensely loved. A state of forgiveness will enter your life that forms the entire structure of your communication with the divine.

Expand your daily thoughts of gratitude. Learn to be thankful for and bless each of your life experiences. Rather than looking at how many “mistakes” you think you’ve made, try to look at those instances as “life experiences” that have brought you even closer to your divinity. Try to look at each new day, each new moment as yet another new opportunity to recognize the divine (in YOU)! Though the ego would have you believe otherwise, you are a unique, limitless being, so incredibly divine that you cannot even begin to imagine your own potential. As the dictionary states above, you are magnificent, perfect, supremely good, sacred, beautiful, delightful, heavenly and godlike. Now THAT’S recognizing the divine!!

NAMASTE.

Contributor's Note

In addition to being an artist (the little image accompanying this article is one of my computer-generated drawings), I am a freelance writer and find that diversity in my writing assignments as well as doing the research for the articles is a rewarding way to spend my time. Not only does it build upon my own knowledge base, it also gives me a newer awareness or broader viewpoint about topics which I may have shunned, therefore providing me with an acceptance or tolerance of all people and their ideas.
